Project Management Simulation Training at
Cranfield University
Cranfield's MSc in Enterprise System
Implementation is now in its third year and is aimed at equipping students with the
integrative approach and practical skills required to ensure success when
implementing ICT projects. TCL, working with the course director Dr Ip-Shing Fan
of the School of Applied Sciences at Cranfield, have again run a simulation day
using
SimulTrain® as an integral part of the course.
A major pan-European research project led by Cranfield University identified
that many companies neglect the organisational and people change aspects when
introducing new technology into a business. One of the reasons for selecting
SimulTrain® to be used in the course is that it helps students to recognise and
focus on these soft skill areas which are more difficult to bring to life in a
formal training environment.
The SimulTrain® experience tests the students implementation and teamworking
skills in a risk free but challenging and fun environment. The simulator gives
instant feedback on decisions taken and reflects those decisions in the course
that the project takes. In addition, teams are given feedback at the end of each
simulation session and get reports from the system. They also have the
opportunity to discuss issues further with TCL's experienced facilitators.
