The Project Management Championship comes to Olympia

After the successful launch of The Project Management Championship (Midlands & North) at the Project Challenge Spring Show at the NEC, Birmingham, The Championship (London & South) was run at Project Challenge Expo 2009 at London Olympia on 1st October.

The scene was set...

.....and the prizes ready.....

After a brief welcome and introduction to SimulTrain®, the project management simulation that was the basis for the final, the teams were off and running. The teams were given a pre-approved project with 17 tasks and a critical path identified, 3 core resources and availability for all the other company resources they could draw upon. The budget and timescales had been set so they "just" had to manage the project to delivery. Pretty much like real life then!  First up, they had to plan their project using the simulator and they were given about an hour for this. Then the simulator kicked off and the teams had to make a series of decisions, deal with team members, bosses, suppliers etc and cope with errors and delays just like any real project.

The results, in reverse order were:

In 3rd place with 360 points and winners of the wooden spoons despite being just 6 points behind the second place team were... "Gordon's Geeks." Well done to Steve Dungworth, Mags Pearson, and Sheila Rush

In second place on 366 points  and winners of the Jelly Babies (the most sort after prize) were "Don't spend that contingency!". Well done to Richard Reuben, Ray Bunton and Louise Tabberer.

Which means that the winners were "The McCarthy & Stone Projects Team" with a winning total of 396 points. Well done to team leader Cathy Edbrooke and team members Matthew Buck and Danni Paull who received the PM Championship shield to hold until next time, miniature shields to keep and the drink of champions, champagne of course. We hope that Cathy and her team will come back to present the trophy to the winners at next years Project Challenge Expo.

Out thanks to everyone that took part and helped make the day a lot of fun and a huge success!

And last time's winners were....

The Mystery PM's from BGL Group with a winning total of 369.

Well done to team leader Tariqul Hashan and team members Beverley Laud and Neil Martin. who received the PM Championship shield to hold until next time, miniture shields to keep and the drink of champions, champagne of course. We hope that Tariqul and his team will come back to present the trophy to the winners next time around.

First you battle it out through a preliminary on-line round for the right to compete head-to-head in the final at the Project Challenge Spring Show 2010 show at the NEC. Finalists will run a simulated project using SimulTrain® - the project management simulator from STS.

The winners will be the team with the best weighted scores across four key measures of success: costs, schedule (on-time), quality and motivation. The winners will hold The Project Management Championship (Midlands & North) trophy for the year and receive individual trophies to keep together with the traditional drink of champions - champagne.
