Profile – David Simon

An experienced, hands-on project manager, with a strong background in IT led projects across a number of business and technology functions.

David has over 25 years in the City with 20 years experience in business and technology management, predominantly in the financial services sector, leading projects, programmes, recovery teams and IT support functions. He has worked for a number of major institutions including Midland Bank, HSBC, Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, Barclays de Zoet Wedd and British Petroleum.

David started his City career in Export Finance and Documentary Credits and was involved in the early SWIFT and Electronic Document Systems. The computerisation/automation in the area of Finance of Foreign Trade led to roles in Business Analysis, Programming, Testing, User Documentation (Training Manuals etc.) and ultimately Project Management.

Since the early days David has led teams in new systems development, support and maintenance functions, Quality Assurance and multiple project environments.

Projects include:

• Market Risk and Credit Risk Systems (both package solutions and custom development).
• Development of Electronic Banking products.
• Managed an IT support function including the implementation of a Help Desk facility.
• Overseas implementations/roll-outs.
• Programme Office Y2K.
• Systems Integration/Migration (as a result of takeovers and mergers)
• Managing Recovery Teams after the Bishopsgate bombings.
• Establishing QA functions and conducting project reviews and feasibility studies.
• Business and IT Contingency Planning
• Running IT Product selection processes (from what is available in the market through to signing of contracts)
• The tailoring of various project management methodologies to fit project/programme requirements.
• Advisor to Executive management.
